Australia’s cyber security naivety puts us at risk - Christopher Pyne

The Cybersquawk Podcast

The Cybersquawk Podcast features the frontline start-ups and next-gen technologies vital to combat the emerging threats of the cybersecurity era. Due to the current rate of cyber-attacks and the projected future growth cost, we explore the innovations necessary to protect us from destructive and expensive ransomware attacks, as both individuals and organisations.

Global cybersecurity spending is predicted to exceed $1.75 trillion USD in the next 5 years with an anticipated 15% year over year growth. By 2025, Cybercrime is predicted to cost the world $10.5 trillion USD annually by 2025, up from $3 trillion USD in 2015. By 2031, global ransomware damage costs predicted to exceed $265 billion USD based on a 30% year over year growth for the next 10 years, with a new attack predicted every 2 seconds.

Cybersecurity is increasingly becoming the most important issue to companies, boards, small business, and individuals. The cyber industry is rapidly changing as is the technology around it. Yet it is difficult to understand and therefore often overlooked – until a breach of data or an attack occurs.

The Cybersquawk Podcast, powered by Maysaffron, is a solution to educate on the emerging cyber trends and threats faced everyday by government, business and individuals. The series attempts to highlight why leaders and investors should focus on cybersecurity opportunities right now in order to ensure protection from the cyber breach or attack before it occurs – not after. As the saying goes, “it is not if it will happen, it is when”.We are seeking to democratise the understanding of Cybersecurity and provide a platform for emerging technologies in the space to talk about their innovations and developments, to expand the knowledge of investors and everyday people about this fast-growing sector.

The first series focuses on the prominent and emerging Australian companies leading the cyber security protection frontline of tomorrow. We talk to industry experts and founders of cybersecurity companies to share their stories and expertise. This is a series for anyone wanting to understand the trends in cyber & discover new technologies, themes and companies, and hear a few good cyber stories along the way.
